Australia Awards Indonesia

Tetra Tech International Development manages the Australia Awards Indonesia scholarship program, providing education opportunities to postgraduate Indonesian scholars who are passionate about improving conditions across the country.

Situation

Indonesia and Australia share an important and highly productive bilateral relationship encompassing cooperation in business, health, education, defence, disaster reduction, infrastructure and rural development. The Australian Government also supports Indonesia’s efforts to sustain its economy and reduce poverty through its aid program, including the Australia Awards.

The Australia Awards are prestigious scholarships are awarded to postgraduate applicants from developing countries, who are passionate about improving conditions in their country.

Solution

Tetra Tech manages the Australia Awards scholarships program in Indonesia on behalf of the Australian Government. Awardees study for postgraduate qualifications at Australian universities, to empower them with the knowledge and tools to improve development of Indonesia.

The Awards ensure recipients address Indonesia’s development goals by offering targeted study areas each year. In addition, each recipient is expected to develop a plan on how they will use their Australian education to improve the lives of Indonesians when they return home.

Result

Tetra Tech’s successful management of the Australian Awards Indonesia program is recognised through its involvement in its last three phases.

Many alumni have returned to Indonesia to make a significant impact on their country. Recent recipients have made crucial developments in the areas of waste management, maintaining and preserving environmental ecosystems, empowerment for Muslim women, rebuilding conflict affected research centres, and broadening knowledge of the English language in schools.

The Australia Awards is the largest and longest running scholarship program in Indonesia, with over 500 postgraduate scholars in 2014.
