Fundraising for Qoma’s recovery and community building

In 2016, Cyclone Winston devastated the small Fijian island of Qoma, destroying essential infrastructure, including the community hall and student learning centre. For the past eight years, the people of Qoma have worked tirelessly to rebuild their community and recover from the cyclone’s devastating effects.

As part of this recovery effort, the community came together for a recent fundraising event to support the reconstruction of their community hall and learning centre. In a powerful show of resilience and unity, the people of Qoma raised FJD 9,942 — an extraordinary amount for a community of just 300 people.

Tetra Tech’s Commitment to Qoma

In recognition of the Qoma community’s remarkable efforts, Tetra Tech International Development — led by Amy Gildea, Managing Director, International Development – Indo-Pacific, and Rosanna Maualaivao MacDonald, Regional Director, Pacific — matched their fundraising total with a donation of FJD 9,942. This contribution reflects our deep commitment to supporting community-led recovery and development efforts across Fiji.

This initiative ties closely to the values of the Pasifika Philosophies course attended by Amy and Rosanna, where they learned the importance of aloha — a love that connects all life, the land (Vanua), and the spirit. These teachings align with Tetra Tech’s approach to community development, reinforcing our focus on respecting local traditions and addressing community needs.
